One of the first of her PhD work, Tanisse and Kim, alongside expert co-authors have published a research article looking at stigmatizing sentiment towards substances across Canadian subreddits. Not only has there not been a scan of stigmatizing sentiments online but we find that the perspectives of punishment, enabling, risk of safety, and resentment, reflect many of the current tensions that may have led to changes in substance use policies in Canada. Tanisse and Kim have published a a perspective piece for The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry with the co-authors Benoit-Antoine Bacon, Gord Garner, and Kim Corace. This article highlights the importance of not only lived and living experience, but true co-leadership in designing and sustaining systems of mental and substance use health care.
